Founded by Hilltop native Joe Calloway, RE360 is deeply and specifically committed to the Pittsburgh community and the people that call it home. RE360 supports and is actively involved in local businesses and events, and continues to renovate vacant and neglected homes and buildings in the underserved Hilltop communities of Allentown, Mt. Oliver, Southside Slopes and Beltzhoover. Here are some highlights of what makes the Pittsburgh Hilltop community unique!
Death Comes Lifting opened its first physical location on Feb. 4 to a crowd of tattooed, band-shirt-wearing visitors. The dark-walled interior is a far cry from your typical CrossFit or Orangetheory location, and founder Zak Bellante says that's by design — this is a gym by and for the misfits.
Although you can find smatterings of alcohol-free beverages in bottle shops around town, The Open Road is the first retail business in Pittsburgh fully dedicated to selling nonalcoholic drinks. Owner Mel Babitz stocks the shelves of her Allentown storefront, which opened late last month, with a dizzying array of bottles that mimic traditional spirits, wines and beer, minus the boozy parts. There are functional drinks spiked with botanicals such as kava and ginkgo biloba and simply-just-delightful-to-drink fizzy lifters, too.
With the help of RE360, 'Brown Bear Bread Cafe hopes to find success in the historical storefront with pastries and parties.' The location of the storefront on Brownsville Rd is nestled in the heart of the Mt. Oliver business district and is a part of the ongoing revitalization of the neighborhood.
'If you’re a foodie or a regular Pittsburgh Magazine reader, I’m sure the space looks familiar. The former Kullman’s Bakery building has housed several businesses over the last five years...
The team at Brown Bread Bread Cafe are here to break the cycle. They got the keys from RE360 on May 9 and opened for business on June 3. '
The Hilltop neighborhood has embraced its status as Pittsburgh’s slightly spooky territory, and it seems to be paying off.
Call it goth, if you grew up in the ’90s, or metal if you’re a bit older. Up and down Warrington Avenue, an array of businesses underline the aesthetic. Among them: The Weeping Glass, a can’t-miss “Oddities & Curiosities” shop; metal-themed vegan eatery Onion Maiden; Dr. Tumblety’s “time-inspired specialty shop” with a secret speakeasy — pictured above — in the back (open for events only for now); the neighborhood’s anchor, Black Forge Coffee House; and decidedly cool nail salon Goodbye Lulu.
When this space was originally leased to comedy connoisseur, Chris Copen, post-onslaught of the pandemic... we never could've imagined that Bottlerocket Social Hall and our Hilltop community of Allentown would soon be considered (mind you -among some of the trendiest spots across the world) the perfect place to post up with locals by Travel + Leisure, and a big city thrill on its 50 Best Places to Travel in 2023 List!
PTL's Daisy Jade checks out the Bottlerocket Social Hall on Arlington Avenue in Pittsburgh, which offers drinks, snacks, dancing, comedy AND MORE. Plus, who doesn't love a time capsule experience?
The Bottlerocket Institute is our foray into comedy education- offering classes from knowledgeable and experienced instructors. Meet People, Have Fun, Learn Things!
This Hilltop speak-easy, distillery and oddities shop truly speaks for itself. Dabbling to the 'dark' aesthetic that has come to call the 15210 neighborhood home, Dr. Tumblety's is perfectly curated to offer an experience on the Hilltop like-no-other.
RE360 and friends geared up to deliver a box-truck full of Toys for Tots to the local Warrington Rec Center. This is just one of the many ways that the RE360 team, led by owner Joe Calloway, continues to serve and give back to the Hilltop communities.
Efforts led by
RE360 and Build360 staff in the annual Garbage Olympics, finally won Allentown the gold medal. The 360 team is always looking for ways to contribute and give back to the local community. The 2022 Garbage Olympics was proof of the passion this team has for the 15210.
After having to skip a year due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Hilltop with the Lid Off festival is returning this year with more festivities than before. The event was launched in 2019 and is about celebrating Allentown and the Hilltop, a term given to a coalition of 11 South Pittsburgh neighborhoods and Mt. Oliver borough. Led by the real estate investment company RE360, with the help of original event organizer Commonwealth Press, Hilltop with the Lid Off will present hours of live music, art, food, and more, all free and open to the public.
Even before the interview begins, the rotary phone connected to the wood-paneled wall rings. “I can't remember the last time I got interrupted by a landline,” I laugh as Bottlerocket Social Hall co-owner and artistic director Chris Copen rushes across the bar to answer it as “Pinball Wizard” by The Who plays softly in the background...
What used to be considered a cut-through to get to Route 51 has become a growing and thriving community that continues to add restaurants and businesses to its repertoire. Tucked between Mt. Washington and the South Side Slopes sits Allentown — centered around the intersection of two major thoroughfares, Arlington and East Warrington avenues.
Bottlerocket Social Hall is starting off with a bang. On May 19, alternative comedy legend Chris Gethard will break in the stand-up stage. The comedian, actor and author has appeared in “The Chris Gethard Show,” “Broad City,” “Space Force” and more. He’ll do a live recording for his “Beautiful/Anonymous” podcast starting at 7 p.m. and the act begins at 9:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are available online. Other events scheduled for May include the Bottlerocket Film Club screening of “The Big Lebowski,” trivia night and Aaron Kleiber’s Comedy Party.
